إن الجملة IEEE والتي تلفظ : ( i-triple-e )
هي اختصار للجملة Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
أي (جمعية مهندسي الكهرباء و الإلكترونيات)
وتعرف بـمنظمة IEEE وعنوانها على الانترنت :
www.ieee.org و هذه المنظمة خاصة غير حكومة وغير ربحية أي ليست شركة تجارية ، هي منظمة عالمية تضم عدد كبير من المتخصصين و المحترفين الذين يسعون إلي التطوير التكنولوجي لصالح البشرية ، و هي أكبر منظمة في العالم لتطوير وابتكار أحدث التقنيات في عالم الكهرباء والإلكترونيات تم أنشاؤها عام 1963.
هذه المنظمة هي وراء أغلب الاختراعات والابتكارات العظيمة في عالم التكنولوجيا والكمبيوتر والاتصـالات والكهـرباء ، هـل تعـــلم أن البلـوتوث Bluetooth و الشبـكـات WAN/LAN و الشبكات اللاسلكـية Wireless ، و الـ WiFi ، والـ WiMAX والكثير الكثير من الابتكارات هي من إنتاج أعضاء منظمة IEEE وبدعم من هذه المنظمة لهم وتبنيها لمشاريعهم حتى نجحت ورأت النور وتم تطبيقها عملياً والاستفادة منها على نطاق واسع .
هذه المنظمة فيها ما يزيد عن 375,000 عضو موزعين في أكثر من 150 دولة ، ومقرها الرئيسي في نيويورك.
تكمن أهمية هذه المنظمة في أنها تعتبر أحد أهم مصادر البحث العلمي والاختراعات والتطويرات التي تتم على التقنية الكهربائية والإلكترونية ، فهي تقوم بعقد أكثر من 300 مؤتمر علمي سنوياً وتنتج عدد كبير من المجلات والكتب والمقالات والنشرات العلمية المهمة جداً سنوياً ، كما أنها تملك عدد هائل وضخم من المراجع المهمة والنادرة المختصة بالهندسة الكهربائية والإلكترونية ، لا يمكن الوصول إليها سوى للمشتركين بالمنظمة.
كما أن المنظمة تقوم بنشر معايير قياسية للاختراعات ، بحيث تسير عليها جميع الشركات والمصانع ، فإنشاء مثل هذه المعايير تجعل من السهل تسويق الاختراعات تجارياً .
في النهاية ، نصيحة لجميع مهندسي الكهرباء والاتصالات والكمبيوتر والإلكترونيات بالاشتراك في هذه المنظمة ، والاستفادة من دوراتها ومحاولة حضور مؤتمراتها ، و متابعة النشرات والمجلات التي تنشر مطلع كل شهر آخر ما توصل إليه العلماء من تطويرات واختراعات ، كما أن المنظمة توفر فرص عمل وفرص دراسية للأعضاء النشطين ، وتسمح للطلبة و الأساتذة على السواء بنشر أوراقهم في المؤتمرات التي تنظمها.

• IEEE membership runs from 1 January through 31 December.
• NEW applications received between 16 August 2011 and 28 February 2012 will automatically be processed at the full year dues rates. Services begin immediately.
• NEW applications received between 1 March and 15 August 2012 will automatically be processed for half-year membership ending 31 December 2012 at the half-year dues rates. Exception is when the applicant specifically requests their application be processed for the full year. However, we cannot guarantee availability of back issues of all publications for the first half of the calendar year.
• The e-Membership option is only available to higher grade members in developing nations.
• Membership in IEEE Technical Societies involves additional dues. See the table below for information on Society membership dues.
• All IEEE members are given online access to Potentials magazine as part of their basic IEEE membership. Student members in the U.S. and Canada receive Potentials in print as part of their dues. For Student members from all other countries and for IEEE Higher grade members who wish to receive a print subscription to Potentials, see rates provided below.
